Patna University Teachers and Employees Unite Against Proposed Changes to the Patna University Act, 1976

Patna University witnessed a rare display of unity as teachers and non-teaching employees jointly staged a peaceful protest against the proposed changes to the Patna University Act, 1976. Representatives from various colleges and departments assembled at the university headquarters, expressing concern that the proposed reforms could undermine the University's autonomy and academic identity.

The protest was organized under the banner of teachers' associations, with active support from the employees' union. Participants observed a mass casual leave and held a sit-in demonstration, demanding that the State Government withdraw the proposed amendments and preserve the unique status of Patna University.

During the gathering, speakers emphasized that Patna University has a distinct historical and academic legacy, protected under the Patna University Act, 1976. They argued that any alteration affecting its governance structure should be undertaken only after extensive consultation with teachers, employees, students, and academic experts.

The demonstration remained peaceful and witnessed participation from a large number of faculty members and staff across constituent colleges. Protesters carried the message:

"Patna University Act, 1976 की रक्षा, उच्च शिक्षा की रक्षा।"

"विश्वविद्यालय की स्वायत्तता से कोई समझौता नहीं।"

Meanwhile, university examinations scheduled for the day were postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. The University administration stated that revised examination dates would be announced separately through the official notification.

The teachers' and employees' associations reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the autonomy, academic excellence, and historic character of Patna University while urging the government to engage in meaningful dialogue before implementing any structural changes.
